Lori Tells, UFC Fight Night, Draw Winners, Quote of the Day and more…

Hey High Rollers, apologies for not posting in a while. I have been enjoying the sunshine in beautiful sunny Southern California, visiting my sister and playing cards at the legendary Commerce Casino. Stayed 8 nights, 5 and 3, and won big the first go around, lost big the next. That’s poker as they say. Disappointed because admittedly I did play poorly on my second visit.

The site is going great, signed two more advertisers today. Great news. If you or your company would like to place an ad at www.highrollerradio.net send me an email at derrick@highrollerradio.net, we offer great packages, will meet your budget and provide you a ton of extras.

“Lori Tells…” on Bad Dealers

She’s back folks…our favorite gal from Biloxi, Mississippi, Lori Kolstad.

“Lori Tells…” on High Roller Radio:

Responding to a recent experience I wrote about, regarding players bad attitudes toward dealers, ‘Blaming’ them for their misfortune. Lori writes:

Lori wrote: “This is a pet peeve of mine, Derrick! Most of the closest people in my circle of friends work in the casino industry, and it makes me LIVID when players do this! I try very hard not to react with the same bad attitude they have, but I wear em down from thatmoment on with bets and table talk meant to make them uncomfortable…eventually, you catch a hand where they pay you off and you can then berate them about how badly they playesd the hand “

She’s the best folks. Lori Kolstad on High Roller Radio.

Lori Kolstad – Wait til you guys hear my latest idea….comin’ soon!

Jack McClelland, Vadim Trincher, Quote of Night, UFC 33, Greatest Fight in History?

Tribute to Jack McClelland:
After five decades as one of the world’s preeminent tournament directors, Jack McClelland, on December 6th, 2013, called it a career.  And what a career it was!  He first earned the TD title in 1984, at the Worl…d Series of Poker. He went on to run the Grand Prix of Poker at the Golden Nugget Casino.  McClelland was the first tournament director to host events at Commerce Casino in Southern California.  His resume includes international poker tournament in locales like the Isle of Man, St. Petersburg, Russia, Vienna, Cyprus and Aruba. For the past decade, McClelland has been running the tournaments at Bellagio, where he helped launch some of the earliest events on the World Poker Tour. He was there, at the helm, for the very first event of the WPT, in May of 2002.  His last event?  The 2013 WPT Five Diamond Doyle Brunson World Poker Classic.
Shuffle up and retire, right?

High Roller Radio Quote of the Night:

My grandmother taught me how to play, starting with two-cent ante, nickel-limit seven-card stud. I was kept broke until I was ten years old because I couldn’t throw a hand away (laughs). But I learned a lot about math playing poker.
– Jack McClelland

High Roller Radio Quote of the Day:

“When I was a kid, I thought that’s what big people did — you throw dice against the wall. That’s the way I was raised forever,” Bob Stupak said in the must-have biography by John Smith, No Limit: The Rise and Fall of Bob Stupak and Las Vegas’ Stratosphere Tower, referring to his parents to ran numbers and spread dice games.

StarCraft like drug addiction?

Some state officials in South Korea think play on computer games such as “StarCraft” — now in its second edition — has gotten so out of control that being obsessed with it should be classified as an illness, along with gambling and drug addictions.  What do you think?

WPT Star in Trouble

Legal troubles for World Poker Tour champion Vadim Trincher, whose admitted to being involved with an illegal sports betting operation that catered to wealthy bettors in the U.S. and Europe. Trincher’s business typically dealt with soccer matches.   He coul have spent decades in prison but thanks to a plea deal had that reduced to between 21 to 27 months in prison.  Trincher is 52 years old.

Did you know?  Lindsay Lohan has reportedly angered casino officials in Connecticut.  Management at Foxwoods not happy after paying the pop culture star a ridiculous $50,000 to judge a costume contest on Halloween.  She was supposed to be there at 10 p.m. and didn’t show until after midnight.  Lohan also skipped the red carpet festivities.  Foxwoods also paid Floyd Mayweather to be a judge and the boxing star was perfectly punctual.

UFC Fight Night 33

Spectacular night of fights in Australia, in particular the ehabvyweight clash between Antonio ‘BigFoot’ Silva and Marc Hunt!  Sick fight, a 5 round war for the ages, perhaps the greatest ther sport has ever seen.  It was a unanimous draw with one judge scoring it 48-47 for Hunt, and the other two having it tied at 47-47…wow.  They were both overjoyed with the outcome and Dana White rewarded them with ‘Fight of the Night’ honors and gave both their win bonuses.  Nicely done boys.

Chris De Beer – “Absolutely amazing fight! Undoubtedly the greatest heavyweight fight of all time – we have been treated to some classics the last few months.”

Johnny Moss, Legend of the Game. Plus – GSP Wins?

Legend of the Game
Johnny Moss On January 25, 1971, a feature article, written by Edwin Shrake, on 3-time world champion Johnny Moss, appeared in Sports Illustrated.  The lengthy piece helped to shape the Johnny Moss legend.  In the articl…e, Moss told Shrake the games he found himself in, back in those days, were absolutely insane: “If you played a week you could win a million dollars, win it in a night if it shaped up right,” Johnny Moss recalls. “There were games, like at the old Metropolitan Hotel in Fort Worth, that nobody would believe the sums involved if I told you today. You got to be a good gambler, anyhow, to get rich in the oil business. Some of them players came out worth $40 million, what with poker and dice and oil leases and whatnot. Money didn’t mean nothing to them, but gambling did. Some of them big old-time oilmen still play in big poker games, but only for the pleasure of stepping on a professional gambler if they can. I like to see them come around.”

UFC 16-sham?  St.Pierre beats Hendricks according to judges only, wow!

Georges St-Pierre continues to rewrite the UFC record book:

His win over Johny Hendricks was a record 19th in the UFC for St-Pierre, moving him past Hall of Famer Matt Hughes at 18. It also extended his string of victories to 12, the longest current run in the UFC.  St-Pierre has not lost since his first title defence in April 7, 2007, when 10-1 underdog Matt (The Terror) Serra knocked him out three minutes 25 seconds into the first round at UFC 69 in Houston. Three fights later, at UFC 83 in April 2008, St-Pierre avenged the loss and won his title back.  The victory moved GSP past former middleweight champion Anderson Silva for most wins in UFC title bouts at 12.  Saturday’s win was GSP’s ninth successful title defence and ninth straight title defence, one behind Silva in each category. And it was his 14th championship fight, one behind Randy Travis Couture.

GSP’s a High Roller!

They were painted as an advertising tool to sell cigars. In 2007, 2 of the original paintings sold for $590,000. WOW. In Poker Parlance, I would be the Call-eee, lol.

CRAZY night of fights at UFC 167, the 20th anniversary show…George St. Pierre wins split decision but it was controversial to say the least…Johny Hendricks, not a mark on him, says “were they watching the same fight I was just in?”  St. Pierre then announced he ‘had to go away for a little while,” and it sounds like he’s retiring.  Wow.  Evans beats Sonnen, which lost us some money, and Lawlor topples MacDonald.

Did you know? Freehold Raceway, in New Jersey, is the oldest racetrack in the United States, with horse racing having taken place there informally since the 1830s.
Did you know?  In January 2012, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed legislation allowing sports betting in New Jersey after it was approved by a 2-to-1 margin in a voter referendum held in November 2011. The law permits any of the state’s 12 casinos and 4 racetracks to offer gambling on professional and college sports, but prohibits them from accepting bets on college events played in New Jersey, or out-of-state games involving New Jersey college teams.  In February 2013, the courts overturned that.
Did you know?  There are 12 casinos in New Jersey, all of which are located in Atlantic City. In 2011, they employed roughly 33,000 employees, had 28.5 million visitors, made $3.3 billion in gaming revenue, and paid $278 million in taxes.  They are regulated by the New Jersey Casino Control Commission and New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

Did you know?  Bobby Hoff, who after several Bad Beats finished second in the 1979 main event to Hal Fowler, was widely regarded as one of the best cash game players ever.  He was a winner from the start, making money in each of his first 40 sessions. Hoff eventually went broke and had to take jobs as a craps and blackjack dealer before taking a shot at grinding blackjack for a living.  Because of card counting, he was barred from every casino in the Silver State and was forced back into poker and put together a legendary career.

Did you know?  The American Gaming Association (AGA) will be using the release of the new poker movie, ‘Runner Runner,’ to push for online poker regulation in America.  The AGA plans to show the government how the movie displays the risks associated with a dodgy and unregulated market.  The plan involves an ad campaign and a series of discussion screenings when the movie hits the theatres September 28th.

The movie stars Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake.
